Must-have Tool at Tufts
I cannot live without my planner! I buy a new one every year. It's super helpful before the semester starts to write in all of the due dates and exam dates for the entire semester. That way, it's impossible for assignment deadlines to "sneak up" on me! My freshmen year, I struggled with adjusting to all of the new free time college gives. I found having a planner is a great way to keep myself on track! I also add in office hours and club meetings too!
Favorite Engineering Class
My sophomore fall, I took an engineering class called Computer Aided Design (CAD). This class was my favorite because our homework assignments were extremely open ended. Our midterm project was designing whatever we wanted as long as it showed we paid attention in class. I designed a roller coaster car, my friend designed a train, my other classmate designed a telephone booth. It was so much fun! Ryan Marshall, the professor of that class, was very approachable and helpful outside of class. When Taylor Swift released Midnights, I reached out to him to discuss the CAD software used in one of her promotional videos for the album.
Advice for Prospective Students
Don't let the word "engineering" scare you, especially at Tufts. Engineering students at Tufts partake in the same clubs, school traditions, sports opportunities and such as every other student. I have friends in my major who are traveling abroad, playing on varsity sports teams, and being active club members. I was afraid that going into engineering would limit me in my extracurriculars, but that doesn't happen here! I'm even able to double minor with the school of arts and sciences! If you're not sure about going into engineering because of your other interests, I promise you that you will be able to explore your other interests here too!
