Favorite Engineering Memory
One of my favorite engineering related memories was competing in the Assistive Technology Make-a-thon in the spring of my sophomore year. As a person who doesn't have much prior experience in engineering such as taking classes in high school, doing extracurricular activities in engineering gives me an opportunity to practice and hone my skills in creation more. The AT Make-a-thon involved us talking to real clients and creating real solutions. You get paired into teams based on which client you were most interested in working with, which allows for students to meet their peers in other fields of study and really interact with people with a wide range of abilities. We had a week to complete our design and it was a super fun and rewarding experience overall.
Why Tufts Engineering?
Tufts' small, focused, program really lets the students get to know their professors and their peers really well. Human Factors specifically is such a growing field, and it is amazing to learn about it from the place where the term was coined (fun HFE fact is that Tufts professors were the first to ever use the term Human Factors and created the field itself!). Being able to consistently have one-on-one conversations with my professors is something I totally take for granted and is one of the reasons why our program is so special. All of the engineering students are so unique and have such broad ranges of interests that you can always have a great conversation about any topic that you are interested in with anyone you see in the Science and Engineering Center. It is an extremely collaborative environment where everyone wants to see you succeed.
Favorite Extracurricular Activity
During my sophomore year I joined the Women's Rugby Team and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. After playing a high school sport and then dealing with COVID isolations, I was really missing a team environment. I quickly picked up the sport and was actually named Rookie of the Year by the end of the season! It is just a great group of people that will always support each other in all of our endeavors which is something I wish everyone can find in their college experience!
