Study Elsewhere
A great education stretches your mind, forces you to think about the world in different ways, and challenges you to examine your assumptions. This is particularly true when you take up the challenge of studying abroad, which Tufts students have been doing for more than forty years.
Global Tufts Study Abroad
Each year, 40-45 percent of Tufts undergraduates participate in full-year or semester-long global education programs around the world. Students may choose to spend their summer at Tufts' campus in Talloires, France or at a Tufts program in Cadiz, Spain or Pavia, Italy.
Students looking for a more immersive experience might spend a full semester or year abroad on one of Tufts' ten study abroad programs in Chile, China, France, Germany, Ghana, Hong Kong, Japan, London, Madrid, Oxford, or Paris or through one of nearly 200 pre-approved external programs.

Civic Semester
Supported by the Tisch College of Civic Life, Tufts Civic Semester combines academic coursework with experiential learning to provide a transformational first-semester focused on community engagement and social justice.
Based in either Urubamba, Peru or Chiang Mai, Thailand, Civic Semester students join a small cohort of 10-12 peers to create a living and learning community which engages deeply with important social issues through Tufts coursework and by supporting and learning from local community organizations. With programming focused on building a civic identity and civic skills for promoting equity and justice, Civic Semester participants return to the Tufts campus with deep friendships, a stronger sense of self, and a clearer understanding of how they want to have an impact during their time at Tufts and beyond. Program costs are covered by tuition and fees, and applicants to the program can utilize their Tufts financial aid package. Click here to learn more.

Tufts runs a summer program off-campus in Washington, D.C., and Tufts students can also study at other Boston area consortium partner institutions.

Cross-Registration with Boston-area institutions
Tufts University has consortium agreements with Boston College, Boston University and Brandeis, allowing students to cross-register for one course per semester as long as they receive the appropriate approvals. If a music course is not available in the music department, students may also take a class at the New England Conservatory.
SMFA at Tufts undergraduate students may cross-register through the ProArts Consortium, which is an association of seven neighboring Boston institutions of higher education dedicated to the visual and performing arts. Its members are Berklee College of Music, the Boston Architectural College, the Boston Conservatory, Emerson College, the New England Conservatory, the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. ProArts courses are only available to undergraduate SMFA at Tufts students.
