It seems like yesterday I was packing up and leaving to come home. It wasn't, though, because my room isn't full of boxes anymore and somehow it's July.
Time flies this time of year - I always start the summer thinking I can do anything and everything, and then there's 1 week left and I didn't do half of what I wanted. So hooray. We've reached the halfway mark!
Anyway, I've been having a good summer; I'm working for the Tufts Travel-Learn Program (the Tufts alumni travel program) at 80 George street. You wouldn't believe all the elephant figurines in the Office of Alumni Relations (800 would not be an exaggeration). The Jumbo spirit is alive and well!
Elephant obsessions aside, I think I lucked out. It was towards the end of the fall semester when I applied, and I only started working in January. At the time, I was mostly worried about my work study award going to waste. Then my boss asked if I wanted to work there over the summer. It turns out I like editing, sending mail, and other office things a lot more than putting meal orders together and trying to stay calm during the lunch rush.
Of course, it's a long drive. About two hours each way, to be exact. It only works because my dad already commutes from Maine to Massachusetts for his job. The rides are long, but I've started rereading Harry Potter, so it's not all bad. (And wow, did I forget how angst-y fifth year Harry is!)
I also have an hour long lunch break every day (which is a lot of time for eating lunch). So thanks to that I've gotten to explore Medford a bit. All of the pictures I've used here (except for the last) are actually from my lunch breaks. I didn't realize there were so many parks in Medford. Also, people have really pretty gardens.
Though the next two months will disappear as fast as these past two did, I'll keep thinking like I have all summer. Unlike last year, I'm not anxious and stressed about moving in this fall. From that alone, summer is fun again. So here's to surviving the first year of college and looking forward to a second.
