Decision day is quickly approaching as May 1st is just around the corner. I am one of the lucky few who never actually had to decide! In reality, as a QuestBridge Scholar, it was up to fate and a promising resume to decide where I was going this upcoming school year. All jokes aside, Tufts was still my number one pick on my QuestBridge list and I was blessed to have gotten it. That's why I want to reach out to anyone that is still on the fence about Tufts because truly there is no campus more special than this one.
When I first heard about Tufts it was everything I could ever imagine on paper. It had the academic rigor, it had the right pre-med track, it had all the extracurricular activities that I wanted (and let's not forgot the amazing music scene in Boston). Also, elephants happen to be my favorite animals and what mascot do we have again? At that point it was basically my destiny to go to this school.
Even then, when I had seemingly made my mind up, I was still anxious to actually visit the school. A lot of times we create this perfect place from the information we see on paper and then visiting the actual campus leaves you completely disappointed. That was my biggest fear. When I arrived on campus with the Voices of Tufts Diversity Experience I was completely enchanted. It's a beautiful campus in the suburbs of Boston, literally in the middle of a neighborhood of charming houses. The best part was that I had the city just a 20 minute ride away if this city girl every got tired of the quiet atmosphere. The feel of the campus was great, the students were incredibly nice, and the food was AMAZING. Everything about Tufts seemed just right. They had traditions like painting the canon every night, one of the coolest things about the campus where groups of people sneak out each night to paint this cannon in the dark with their personal messages. My favorite thing by far was sitting in on this small class about science and society where the teacher ended his lecture with a rap about climate change that was enthusiastically sung with the music to Super Bass by Nicki Minaj.
After my visit Tufts no longer felt like a school, it felt like home. I was completely in love. It was promising in every way, both on paper and in person. It has this bright, bubbly, and all-around happy environment. It's the place I want to be and it's a place you should truly consider.
