Why Tufts

Apr 16
Jumbo Talk

Making a decision on what college you will attend can be a scary and daunting task. Especially for an international student like me who lives over 8000 miles from the US and cannot visit schools. I had to make endless calls and emails to various schools, speak to students and alumni and basically go with my gut instinctive feeling. I picked Tufts ED because of many reasons including location, interdisciplinary studies and the food (hehe). Though I still haven’t attended I am pretty sure I would still pick Tufts today. Here’s why:

The Tufts people solidified my decision to apply to and attend Tufts.  My alumni interviewer and I spent hours talking about issues ranging from feminism, terrorism and our love for food. Tufts people, apart from being nice, are always willing to learn and aren’t tied down by any particular field, background or perspective.  It’s also not hard to tell how much jumbos love their school. School spirit is ubiquitous. From photos of jumbos to these blogs, it is apparent that they love their school.

Even before I decided to apply and was basically being a pestering prospective student to everyone, all my emails and questions were addressed so promptly and comprehensively (My dad calls this TRR: Tufts Rapid Response). I faced many challenges as I applied, however the Tufts Admissions and Financial aid staff were not only so understanding and respectful to my family, but also worked with us to get viable solutions. Clearly, Tufts cares.

The last three months have cleared any doubts I might have heard about my fellow future 2020 classmates who have turned out to be some of the most dynamic people I have ever met. I mean, we can be talking about politics or calculus in one moment and be sharing and aww-ing at cute elephant or dog videos the next moment. They are genuinely so interested in getting to know one another albeit virtually. The Tuftsy spirit of community is so evident; be it through helping a future classmate with homework, encouraging each other through senioritis or playing cards against humanity together.

To all RD admitted students who are still deciding: Go ahead and enroll, you won’t regret it!

If anything, this guy Jumbo the elephant should convince you to come to Tufts.
