It's crazy to think that I've been at Tufts for more than two and a half years now! Sometimes it feels like I've been here forever, and other days it's like I just got here last month. And in a few short weeks, I'll be reading about the newest class of Jumbos - the Class of 2020 - while preparing for my own final year! So in celebration, and with a touch of nostalgia, here is what I would write if I had to apply all over again and answer the "Why Tufts" question.
There are lots of things about Tufts that I love. The view of the fall foliage on the hill, the heated debates on whether Dewick or Carmichael is the better dining hall, the peace of getting a cup of coffee from the Women's Center and relaxing on the couch in between classes - all of this, and more. But none of these things would have any value if it were not for the people. The connections that I've made on this campus, whether through late night study sessions for Biochemistry exams, or through teaching a class to first years, or through living in specialty housing - these are what have made my time here memorable. The people I've met are incredibly diverse, but what they all have in common is the ability to surprise you. From the English major who has a passion for physics, to the Econ major who makes films in her spare time - the people at Tufts have passion, and there's nothing more inspiring to be surrounded by. On the supplementary application, one of the questions I answered was to "celebrate your nerdy side." I love Tufts because I get to do just that every day, but I also get to appreciate and celebrate everyone else's too.
