Stark Differences Between Tufts and High School

Apr 08
Vaughn Rogers Jumbo Talk

At Tufts there is a prevailing sense of freedom, a freedom which was lacking in my high school.

To begin, you will likely not have classes from 8am to 2pm Monday through Friday. Instead, you may find yourself having one, two, or three classes per day, and the rest of the time is yours to decide what you should do. This is liberating, as you can spend however much time you would like studying, conversing with friends, or eating dinner - you have full responsibility over your actions and preparation.

Not having classes all day allows you to workout in the gym, run, or read a great book, all while not sacrificing academic performance or social endeavors. Unlike high school, absolutely nothing is forced. You may pick courses which interest you from a diverse catalogue, choose a sport to play - or not - and deliberate on which extracurriculars you will find most valuable.

This time in-between classes has allowed me to pursue a research position which occupies >20 hours of my week, while also affording me adequate time to study for my courses, meet with friends, practice violin, and quite importantly, sleep.

Enjoy the newfound freedom, and be productive with your time! As an added bonus, many of us students have no classes on Fridays, too!
