It's Application Season: A Guide to the Tufts Resources

Dec 28
Jumbo Talk

My last blog was about time management tips, so this one is all about what you need to get through the next week. You guys are not alone in this; not only are there many resources around you but there are plenty of people who want to help. Here are some useful sites to help you along in the process.

Tufts Resources:

  1. SIS (Student Information System) Course Catalog - all Tufts courses offered in Spring 2016 and previous semesters.
  2. Academic department pages – Is there cool research, programs or classes you want to take at Tufts? Maybe that’s something you can use in your Why tufts? essay. Use examples from your life to show how they fit with your interests and your background.
    1. Arts and Sciences
    2. School of Engineering
    3. Experimental College
  3. Jumbo Magazine - publication for prospective students

Blogs:

  1. How to find the Perfect Essay Topic in Five Easy Steps by Meredith Reynolds
  2. Using your Supplement Wisely by Jaime Morgan

Focusing websites:

  1. Google Keep– Make virtual post-it notes, add uplifting pictures, etc. I love lists so this rocks my world.
  2. StayFocusd Extension for Chrome – brutal but effective way to block or set a time limit on websites.

Distracting websites:

  1. Tufts Daily/ TuftsNow – Tufts-based newspapers
  2. Admissions Counselor Briana Bouchard got me hooked on online jigsaw puzzles.

Inspiration:

  1. Kid President always wins
  2. TED TALKS like "The Happy Secret to Better Work" by Shawn Achor

Extra resources that may pertain to what you are doing:

  1. Degree sheets – now probably isn’t the best time to decide what you will major in, but your major is deeply related to your college experience. I referenced these degree sheets a lot as I was deciding to major in mechanical engineering. Don't forget that you should not apply undecided! Engineering degree sheets can be found at the bottom of the Themes and Requirements page, while arts and science degree sheets are on each department's website.
  2. Me! - Feel free to email me at camille.saidnawey@tufts.edu if you have any questions about Tufts or the application process. I’m on winter break now with more time than I know what to do with!
