Dorm Life Explained

Nov 14
Jumbo Talk

A huge part of college means living in dorms. Dorm life might be a drastic change, depending on what you're used to, but it definitely has its perks.

Cons: You have to deal with communal bathrooms. I can't say it's an easy feat. I hate having to share a bathroom with twenty other people on my floor. I also hate not having a kitchen to cook and bake for myself.

Pros: Even having a roommate, though a big change, will be a comfort when you need a little company. Not everyone's roommate experience will be the same. Some may become best friends and others will just realize they are not meant to live together. Just remember to be considerate and organized. No one wants to be woken up to the sound of shutting drawers and hair dryers.

Not everything is uncomfortable and weird when it comes to dorm life. Your dorms will have so many events if you're ever bored or looking to bond with other people on your floor. There are movie nights, baking events, and other activities you can always participate in. It's nice to have options, and if you tend to be more on the shy side it's a guaranteed way of meeting people that live with you, and finding someone you really like. RA's are great too. They're always around for a helping hand and they give great advice about things on campus.

Dorm life may be a little bit of an adjustment, but it really is a rewarding experience that helps you meet people and learn the important life lessons of organization, consideration, and compromise.
