NESCAC and NCAA watch out, Tufts is coming for you! Get to know TUWB before the postseason officially begins with seniors Ali Rocchi, Caitlin McClure, and Liz Moynihan:
Our team is made up of an amazing group of girls. Not only do we have a wide array of talent, but we also have a diverse mix of backgrounds, interests, and humor, which makes the time we spend together a blast. We have teammates from all over the country including New York, Virginia, California and Arkansas. We also have many different majors on the team: engineering, economics, history, anthropology, and psychology, just to name a few. Our season stretches from November through (hopefully) March, but including preseason and postseason, basketball is really a year long commitment. Despite being at the gym together for several hours every day, the team loves to hang out outside of Cousens gymnasium. From hours spent watching Entourage, to baking our favorite dessert—bazookie—to watching Pitch Perfect with our newest team member, thirteen-year-old Shannon Curley, TUWB is always down to hang.
One of the most exciting things to happen to our team this year was drafting Shannon onto our squad. Shannon is an inspirational thirteen-year-old from Billerica, MA who we met through Team IMPACT. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2012, Shannon has made an amazing recovery and is now our good luck charm! We’ve gotten to hang out with Shannon a couple of times watching movies, carving pumpkins, and we even got to play some games with her middle school basketball team! Shannon has also been able to make it to a couple of our home games this year and with her on the bench we are unstoppable.
This group of 16 has the chemistry to work together and get it done on the court. Off the court we enjoy long ice baths, lounging in our groutfits (grey sweatpants & sweatshirts) and extravagant tailgates provided by our wonderful parents. Every day we work to be able to call ourselves the toughest team in the ‘cac. As seniors we feel incredibly lucky and proud to be playing with such an incredible group of athletes and hope to extend our season through the beginning weeks of March. No matter what happens, we know that this will be a year and a team that we will never forget.
Love, 2014
