As a first gen student, it was always important for me to see what a college campus looked like before I chose to apply. That’s why I’m glad that some schools offered the ability for students like me to come visit their campus for free. Here at Tufts, we understand the importance of seeing any future campus of yours and connecting with the community you may be joining, hence why we offer the Voices of Tufts fly-in program (more commonly known as Voices). This 1-2 day program allows prospective students to meet admissions counselors and learn how to craft a strong application, but more importantly, it allows prospective students to meet current students and Tufts professors, the community you will be living and learning with!
This year, students will have the opportunity to learn about Tufts virtually or in-person. The virtual program will take place on October 5th. Now, we don’t want to spoil too much about what we have planned during the actual programming, but to give you a preview, students will be connecting with our Diversity Admissions Team Student Ambassadors to learn about the various communities they interact with on a daily basis at Tufts. You’ll get to meet with our amazing Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion (DSDI) center staff, who cannot wait to talk about the amazing events they put on throughout the year and the amazing communities they help foster on campus. You’ll also get some insider tips and tricks from our admissions team to help make sure you can craft a strong application. Again, we don’t want to spoil too much, so how about we leave it there.
For our in-person students, you’ll get to meet with our DAT ambassadors, DSDI centers, and admissions team as well. But you’ll also get matched with a current student to spend the night in their dorm room to see what it is like living at Tufts. All of your travel expenses to Tufts will be paid for or reimbursed by us, so you don’t need to worry about paying for anything (except for any of the merch from our bookstore that you’re sure to want to pick up).
However, we know that not every student who applies to Voices will be able to do the program. Even if you're not selected though, you will still be given an application fee waiver for the upcoming application cycle. That means anyone who has applied, or was nominated for the program, is able to apply to Tufts free of charge!
Hopefully you’re now interested in attending Voices, so let’s briefly look at the application process. The Voices application is meant to be very similar to the traditional Tufts application. We’ll ask you to submit your transcript and you can choose to submit test scores (AP, SAT, or ACT), if you wish, so we can see your academic skills. We’ll also have you list your top 3 most influential activities (which you can add a brief description for if you like), so we can see what you do outside the classroom. Finally, you will have to write a short answer question (250 words or less), asking about what you’re interested in studying. All of these pieces you can choose to reuse later for your Tufts application! We hope getting this head start on completing your Tufts application will make the fall a bit less stressful for you.
Regardless of whether you take part in the program virtually or in-person, we hope that Voices is able to help you find out about all the reasons Tufts is a special place to be. Maybe after the exciting weekend events, you’ll decide that Tufts is your dream school and apply ED like many other former Voices students! You can access the application here. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please reach out to myself or our voices@tufts.edu email so we can help.
