Junior College Search: Tip #3

Feb 21
Grace Marshall Inside Admissions

Hello juniors!

I hope that you’ve enjoyed our first two tips (reflecting on big college questions, and finding student voices on campus), and for our last tip, we have a two-for-one. So without further ado...

Tufts Admissions College Search Tip #3a: Take advantage of college resources and opportunities for prospective students...

There are so many ways to engage with and learn about colleges, both in-person and virtually. Join a school’s mailing list to receive admissions publications and emails. Or go to their admission website–most schools have a “Visit” tab that lists their information sessions, tours, and open houses (Tufts offerings are linked below!):

  • On-campus information sessions and tours
  • Virtual information sessions and tours
  • Fly-in programs
  • Virtual open houses
  • Join the mailing list

...and Tufts Admissions College Search Tip #3b: set a reasonable schedule!

There’s A LOT of content out there, and you may have MANY colleges on your interest list, so it’s important to pace yourself and set a reasonable schedule to go about your search. It might look something like this:

  • Aim to attend one virtual information session every other week
  • Set aside one hour in February to join mailing lists of intriguing colleges
  • Schedule 2 working sessions in the next few weeks to learn more about fly-in programs and fall open houses at the schools that interest you.

Setting a reasonable schedule for your college search process means you steadily gain new information, without feeling overwhelmed. The search can feel like one big task, but breaking it down into smaller bite-sized pieces will help you feel accomplished and in control.

Those are our top 3 tips for starting the search! We hope to see you at a virtual information session, following us online, or reading JUMBO Magazine.
