Swipe Scavenging
After wallowing in the 400 swipes of the unlimited dining plan last year, I elected to go with the stingiest possible meal plan for my sophomore…
Whether at home or in college, a teenager can't help but have bad days. It's in the hormones. Sometimes, you just wake up and know that you're in for a complete storm of, well, poop (for lack of a better word) being thrown your way. Because it doesn't matter that Tufts is the happiest place of my life – days can suck no matter the environment.
I had my 2nd Introduction to Psychology test this morning. Even though I had studied my ass off, I know I didn't do amazingly. That's the thing about classes at Tufts – they'll (hopefully) always challenge you, and even if you were the best in your class in high school, you may struggle. When the admissions team says that this school is academically elite, they're not kidding. So I emerged from Cabot Auditorium feeling discouraged and pissed off, wanting to punch the sun for being so happy and bright. Later that afternoon, I felt so achy that my friend, currently training to be an EMT, convinced me to get seen by a health professional. I spent an hour and a half in Health Services, the clinic we have at Tufts where doctors are always on call to help you out. Having left the place with a shot in the bum and antibiotics for two weeks, my outlook on life was hardly any better.
All I felt like doing was crawling into bed and never coming out. I retreated to the comfort of my bed and rolled myself in my blankets before drifting off into a blissful nap. When I awoke, I convinced myself to drag my sorry person to the dining hall. Food always cheers a person up, especially when it's from the Dewick-MacPhie dining hall. A slice of buffalo chicken, some amazing vegetable tortellini and a hilarious discussion about the American South with a couple friends from down below the Mason-Dixon line later and I was feeling substantially better. Right now, I'm sitting at my desk sipping coffee from our student-run cafe and listening to my boyfriend and his best friend play Take It Easy by the Eagles on their guitars while sort of half singing along. That's the wonderful thing about Tufts: you can never be down for too long, because there are always incredible people who will do anything they can to bring you up and make you happy. I love this school, and I hope that everyone who applies and comes here finds the same magic world I have.
