Dinner Out in Harvard Square
Although my workload has kept me quite busy, I’ve done a great job of surrounding myself with people who remind me to take breaks, have similar hobbies…
Whether you’re studying late on a Friday or Saturday night, or are returning back from Boston, if you find yourself feeling hungry there are plenty of places in and around campus to grab a bite to eat. You can always walk into Davis Square, filled with a multitude of restaurants and eateries to choose from but especially as it’s getting colder out sometimes sticking around campus is a more attractive option. One of my latest and favorite discoveries has been stopping by Late Night at Commons! Late Night at Commons is an event unique to the weekends that happens at the Campus Center from 10pm to 12am on Friday and Saturday nights. During this time, students can use a meal swipe to get a meal of their choice! Using a meal swipe in college lingo basically means free, so you can see why us college students go crazy for this event. The meals you can get on these nights basically are equivalent to about $13.00 which allows students to use a “swipe” that would normally allow them to access either of our two dining halls on campus. As a freshman, we are allotted more than 4 meal swipes a day so you always have plenty left over to use for events like these. The meal choices include Popcorn Chicken & Fries, Chicken Alfredo, or Pizza Bagels, all paired with a dessert and a drink!...Did I mention it’s for a meal swipe? There’s really nothing better!
My favorite thing about Late Night is not only the food- which don’t get me wrong is the perfect end to any activity of the night- but rather all the people you will run into at the Campus Center during these hours. It is the perfect option when you want to stick around campus while also doing something fun with friends. I’ve found myself running into classmates, lab partners, Pre-Orientation leaders, and of course plenty of new faces as well. It’s a great and natural way to socialize and grab a bite with friends and run into those people you wish you saw more, or haven’t seen in a while. You can even find yourself striking up new friendships as it is usually packed with people all enjoying each other's company. I actually didn’t find out about Late Night until recently, but the past couple of weekends I have gone, it has been so enjoyable to decompose surrounded by your closest friends while conversing with students of all ages. That’s one of the greatest parts about college- you will still be discovering new and exciting things to do even a few months into school! With upstairs and downstairs seating there’s plenty of room for a large amount of people which is what makes this weekly event so enjoyable for me. When campus is getting a little quiet around this time, you can head into the campus center and find it bustling with talkative, smiling faces. Grab a table with friends and you never know who you might end up running into. It is simple, easy events like these that have made my time at Tufts so naturally enjoyable. Something so simple as food being available at one place and time brings people together from the entire community!
