Dual Degree with the New England Conservatory of Music
The Tufts/New England Conservatory (NEC) Five-Year Dual Degree program provides an opportunity for students who want to combine an intensive music program with a strong liberal arts curriculum. It is a difficult but rewarding program for talented students who are prepared to make a commitment to both areas of study.
This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts and a Bachelor of Music degree from the conservatory. Students may pursue majors in orchestral instruments, piano, composition, guitar, voice, historical performance, organ, jazz studies, contemporary improvisation, music theory, and music history at the NEC and concentrations in any area of The School of Arts and Sciences (except music) at Tufts.
Five-Year Dual Degree students must complete a minimum of 82 credit hours at NEC, including requirements in studio, ensemble, chamber music and the following core requirements:
Music History 12 credits
Music Theory 26 credits
Career Skills 2 credits
Departmental varies depending on major (see NEC Academic Catalog)
Students must also fulfill the foundation, distribution and concentration requirements of a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree at Tufts (except arts distribution). Students take 24 course credits.
Prospective students interested in the Five-Year Tufts/NEC program must submit admissions applications and financial aid applications to both Tufts and the NEC. Students must be admitted at both institutions, and be selected specifically for the joint degree.

Dual Degree with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts
This unique Five-Year Combined Degree program is specifically designed for students who wish to pursue their artistic and academic interests to the fullest extent. Students in this program share their time between the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University.Graduates of the Combined Degree program receive two degrees within five years: a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. The Five-Year program offers preparation for a career in the arts and unparalleled advantages for the professional artist.
This program consists of 84 studio art credits and a minimum of 24 academic courses. Students must fulfill the foundation, distribution and concentration requirements of a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree at Tufts, in addition to the Museum School studio requirements. Academic courses include the following:
Two courses in English writing
Two in the humanities
Two in the social sciences
Two in math
Two in natural science
Six in language and culture
One in world civilizations
Six in art history
Ten to twelve courses in your major concentration
Students interested in applying to this program should file concurrent, separate applications for admission to the Museum School and to Tufts University. Application fees must be paid to both institutions. Students must be accepted at both schools independently in order to be accepted into the Five-Year Combined Degree program. Applicants who are not accepted for the Combined Degree program are automatically reviewed by the Museum School for admission to the Bachelor of Fine Arts program.
Students wishing to pursue a studio art degree should only apply to the Museum School, indicating an interest in the Bachelor of Fine Arts.
