At Tufts, our academic programs are designed to teach students to make decisions, think independently, solve problems, take intellectual risks, challenge conventional wisdom, communicate effectively and explore the latest knowledge in a wide range of fields.
Here are some stats for you
Of the 4800 undergraduate students at Tufts, approximately 80 percent study in the School of Arts and Sciences, while the remaining 20 percent of students are enrolled in the School of Engineering.
The student/faculty ratio at Tufts is only 9/1, and the average class size tops out at 20 students. 75 percent of classes have 21 or fewer students while only 1 percent of the classes have more than 100 students. The University intentionally keeps class sizes small so our students can develop personal relationships with their faculty members– a top priority at Tufts.
About the schools and programs
The majority of courses at Tufts are taught by full-time professors, most of whom hold PhDs and/or terminal degrees in their field. Graduate teaching assistants are present in many classes to lead recitations or review sessions designed to reinforce material already presented by the professor during the lecture.
Without question, Tufts is a great place to study. We’re proud to be classified as a research university, but still be able to offer the benefits of an intimate liberal arts college. Our courses, along with the professors who teach them, are truly exceptional, and we hope you’ll take the time to explore them as you learn more about the academic community at Tufts.
