What I'm Loving Right Now: Annalise. All Day, Every Day.

Dec 05
Jumbo Talk

On the issue of black women being awesome, my hero this fall has been without a doubt Annalise Keating from the show How to Get Away with Murder. The new sights, sounds, colors and smell of the fall pale in comparison to the colors and sounds that come from my twelve-inch retina display monitor.  Its’s Shondaland all day every day in my world, and I’m taking this time to reflect on three reasons why Annalise Keating (played by Viola Davis) is the best.

1. Annalise is extremely good at what she does. In a world not meant for her, she circumvented the system before turning around and winning. More than half of the best scenes in HTGAWM are literally just Annalise owning people. She makes criminals move. All hail the Cardi B of the courtroom.

2. Aside from being a badass lawyer, she is also great at dancing. Even though she has yet to bust out a good dab, Annalise dancing scenes are literally some of the most elating scenes on TV. Thursdays evenings are some of the most tiresome evenings, on the one hand most of the week would have already beaten you down and on the other, you still must wake up on Friday and do it all again. Annalise dancing is the perfect pick me up for those macabre Thursday glums.

3. Last, Annalise is not afraid to cry. Oftentimes we get so caught up in trying to be the best we can that we often forget to take care of ourselves. Aside from her other vices when it comes to dealing with emotions, Annalise is one to settle down for a good bawl. She serves as an example to us all.
