Our Student Communications Group (SCG) has created a video welcoming you to Tufts! Hear from each of the four members of the Digital Team about their inspiration for the video, the process of making this video, and what they hope you learn from it.
Stories shared through a student’s perspective were a big driving force in this video’s narrative. We thought it would be fun to show some of the potential “days in the life” students can live at Tufts, with all their similarities and differences. This video, being only a couple of minutes long, can't speak to every unique student’s experience at Tufts, but I hope it sparks some excitement about how many new routines await you in college. The college experience I’ve lived so far has been full of big questions, of new directions, and of growth & change. My wish is that viewers begin to see the doors that open to all these possibilities and more in this video.
My personal experience at Tufts has been a lot of exploring my options and realizing how much is out there. Some of my favorite moments have come from trying things out, even trying things that I never expected to try or thought I’d have the opportunity to do. So, for the welcome video, we wanted new students to have a little bit of this feeling by watching it. The video only shows a few options of what you could do here, but a lot of them are personal highlights from the experiences of the Digital Media Student Communications team. Since I have a background in animation, I worked on the tiny animations found throughout the video, which we thought would add a fun, handmade, aspect throughout the video.Since, I often visit the SMFA and the Museum of Fine Arts, I also worked on those shots! What we’ve shown here is not even half of what you can do at Tufts, so I hope you’re excited about creating your path during your time here!
This is my first year with the SCG and I have learned so much about photography and video production. As someone who had some experience with making social media posts through Canva, the SCG allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and view Tufts from a different lens—literally. I was able to capture the different and diverse narratives that make up the Tufts community. The Welcome Video is more than a video; it’s a story to highlight life here at Tufts. With my amazing media team, we were able to showcase the possibilities here and the talents we’ve learned through our role in the Admissions office. Through hours of filming days and editing, we were able to create an amazing video to show your future home – a glimpse into a journey filled with growth and discovery. Welcome to this community, Jumbos!
I have been part of the Student Communications Group for two years now, and it’s been exciting being able to develop my media skills and make a tangible impact on incoming students. It’s been fun to work on the Class of ‘28 Welcome Video with a team that has been able to utilize each other’s individual strengths and knowledge. Maddie and I helped produce last year’s Welcome Video as well, and we continue to learn from each experience. Some of the goals with this year’s welcome video were to explore a wide range of what Tufts has to offer and highlight the student experience. Showing off popular spaces for students, both academic and recreational, was a goal of ours, to help give students a feel for the campus and a sense of how students spend their time. While we could not highlight every club and extracurricular, we hope that this video has given a glimpse into the active and welcoming community at Tufts. Throughout the filming and editing process, I have discovered even more about Tufts, which goes to show how diverse the student experience is here. I hope the Class of ‘28 embraces all that Tufts has to offer. Welcome to the Herd!
