The summer before transferring to Tufts, I decided to approach this new chapter with an open heart and no specific expectations, all while secretly hoping to find places on campus where I could foster genuine connections and discover a sense of belonging. As an international student, my journey held the dual purpose of maintaining a connection to my roots while also embracing the exciting prospect of new experiences. It was mid-December, when the first snowfall of the season descended upon Tufts, that I had a realization at that moment that Tufts had truly begun to feel like home. I vividly recall stepping outside with a group of friends, the fresh snow underfoot, the crisp winter air filling our lungs, and that moment will always stay with me.
Upon setting foot at Tufts, I resolved to immerse myself in diverse activities and make a lasting impact in every sphere I encountered. I eagerly joined the E-Board of the Tufts Association of South Asians (TASA), a platform through which I actively contributed to planning social events for the South Asian community. Since this summer, I've had the honor of serving as the Co-President of TASA, striving to expand its reach and influence. Last Fall, I was honored to be selected as a student consultant for the prestigious 180 Degrees Consulting at Tufts, a social impact-focused consulting club. Working with international organizations, I gained valuable insights into various nonprofit sectors and collaborated with a talented team of student consultants to formulate recommendations for our clients. Through this experience, I found like-minded individuals committed to positively impacting the community and budding consultants eager to hone their skills. This summer, I assumed the role of Co-Director of Business Development for the club, where I've had the opportunity to give
back to the organization by recruiting partners for our semesterly projects.
I also found myself sharing a suite last year with fellow transfers and some other amazing individuals, and this experience would go on to define my journey. We connected through our shared path of coming from other institutions, navigating the challenges of adapting to a new environment, and embracing the unknown together. Our suite quickly became a hub of support and camaraderie, where we studied, shared stories of our past schools, and watched weekly episodes of The Bachelor and many other shows and movies. The friendships that blossomed from those shared experiences have since become some of my closest at Tufts, a testament to the strength of connections formed during the transformative journey of being a transfer student. The support and understanding we provided one another throughout our time at Tufts was invaluable. I'm forever grateful for the bonds we cultivated in that suite and the bonds I could create with other transfer students as well.
So, my advice to transfer students is— don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Seek out the spaces that make you happy and the people who constantly motivate you. Embrace the unexpected moments, like the connections that spark when you least expect them. Your Tufts experience is a blank canvas waiting for your unique brushstrokes. Remember that your story at Tufts is meant to be written by you and that it's a journey of self-discovery and a chapter of new beginnings. So, with an open heart and a curious mind, dive into your Tufts experience because the collection of these new beginnings will shape your amazing journey here as you make lifelong friends and find amazing mentors. Welcome to Tufts :)
