Deciding on your major might feel like one of the most significant decisions you’ll make. For me, it certainly did, especially as someone who struggled to fit all of my diverse interests into a single major. When I started my classes at Tufts, I quickly realized there were so many subjects I had never considered but became passionate about, from religion to chemistry. The thought of narrowing down my focus felt overwhelming, especially as I began to realize how many areas of study intrigued me.
However, I found comfort in the realization that there are no limitations in college. Tufts' curriculum offers a unique blend of flexibility and overlap between different fields, allowing you to explore multiple interests without feeling confined to one academic path. That’s exactly what I did.
While majoring in Biopsychology, I also decided to declare a second major in Biomedical Sciences. This interdisciplinary approach allowed me to dive into engineering courses, even though I was primarily in the School of Arts and Sciences.
In hindsight, this freedom was crucial for my academic growth. The ability to overlap fields of study not only deepened my understanding of each subject but also allowed me to approach problems from different perspectives. That’s what I love about the academic environment here—no matter how broad your interests are, you can find a way to combine them in meaningful ways.
