Amid the stress of midterm season, it's not uncommon to feel overwhelmed. I've personally
experienced the siren call of my cozy room, with the temptation of a quick nap always just a few
steps away. So, depending on the workload and the type of study environment I seek, you can
usually spot me at one of my go-to study spots, each offering a unique ambiance and distinct
appeal.
1. Tisch Library
Libraries often conjure images of silence and seriousness, which can be intimidating. However,
when I need an environment that's conducive to serious, distraction-free studying, Tisch Library
is my refuge. Whether it's the hushed first floor or the basement area with so much natural light
streaming through the windows, I find my focus here. It was a friend's suggestion that led me to
the basement's window-side, and ever since I've been able to do some amazing studying here.
Tisch Library even houses the Tower Café, the perfect coffee and snack spot during study
breaks.
2. CC (Mayer Campus Center)
For a balanced blend of productivity and socializing, my go-to spot is the 3rd floor of the CC.
Here, I can work on assignments and do other tasks while always running into familiar faces. It's
the ideal place to connect with friends and fellow students. The Commons, the Sink, and Hotung
Café being in the same building is perfect, so you have a bunch of food options available, though
it's worth noting that securing a table can sometimes be a challenge.
3. Tamper Café
Nestled at 340 Boston Ave, Tamper Café is another gem of a study spot. It has exceptional drip
coffee, mouthwatering cookies, and my personal favorite, the Zac Attack avocado toast. The
amazing atmosphere makes it a popular haunt not just for students but even professors. I love to
meet up with friends and do problem sets here for my classes as you can discuss and talk since
it’s not super quiet, but you’re also motivated to do work here.
4. JCC (Joyce Cummings Center)
Considering I have most of my classes here, I spend a lot of my time in this building, but I
absolutely love the aesthetic of it. The 2nd floor by the windows is an amazing spot to do work,
but I also really like the 5th floor by the big windows, though it is hard to find a place to sit there
sometimes because CS Office Hours take place on almost every floor of the JCC. The best part
of the JCC is the view of the Baseball Field, and when the sun sets, I get so distracted looking at
it that my homework comes to a standstill for a bit.
There are so many other amazing study spots on campus, in fact, when the weather is good- Prez
Lawn is a fantastic place to get some work done in the warmth and sun. These are some of my
productive spot on campus and around :)
