My Top 3 Off Campus Adventures

Nov 05
Dan Patterson Jumbo Talk

There are a ton of reasons why I chose Tufts (amazing students and professors, a collaborative atmosphere, a beautiful campus to name a few) and now that I’m here I find new reasons to love Tufts even more all the time. One of the factors I didn’t really consider all that important during my college search was location. Since I’m from the quiet suburbs of upstate New York I figured any school would offer more hustle and bustle than I’m normally used to. Lucky for me, Tufts is in a perfect location where there are tons of things to do on campus and in the surrounding area. I’ve had so much fun exploring Medford, Somerville, and Boston with all of my friends and I’ve made some pretty good memories. Without further ado, here’s my top 3 off campus adventures!

1. My Caribbean One World Expo

One of my favorite impromptu adventures was going to the My Caribbean One World Expo on Rose Kennedy Greenway with two of my Carribean friends. The festival was packed with reggae performers, clothing and jewelry vendors, and of course food! Before going back to campus, my friends and I made sure to stock up on festivals and sorrel. It was a fun surprise to be able to connect to my roots on campus with Tufts Caribbean Student Organization and off campus with events like festivals in Boston!

2. Boston Public Garden

One of my very few planned adventures was to Boston Public Garden near the infamous Newbury Street. Being surrounded by state parks growing up, I was missing some greenery so I planned to walk around the park and birdwatch. What was unplanned about this trip was meeting four new friends! It’s no secret that Boston is filled with college students so it’s easy to meet students from different schools in the area, but I was surprised that I was able to make friends that I now regularly go into Boston with so easily. Whenever we have extra time we always go back to see the golden ducks that brought us together!

3. Sky Zone!!!

Coming to Tufts, I had no idea what my college experience would be like, but now I can sum it all up in one word: fun! Sure college can be stressful and overwhelming at times, but the vast majority of the time I’m having fun with my friends. I had never been to Sky Zone before and my first time was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had by far. My friend and I went on a Saturday night and were delighted to find out that it was glow in the dark bounce night! We had a great time playing dodgeball, diving into soft blocks, and jousting and we will definitely be going back in the future!

Bonus: Food!

Every time my friends and I eat is an adventure and there aren’t enough words to describe how much I enjoy eating with my friends, but I just thought I’d mention how many great food options are available around Tufts! We’ve tried food from a many different restaurants around campus and in Boston and there’s too many good places to recommend. The picture we took was from Happy Crab where my friends and I went to celebrate my birthday and we liked the food so much we went outside to take pictures in the bibs!
