My Favorite Winter Spots on Campus

Mar 20
Teagan Mustone Jumbo Talk

Whether to grab a hot coffee, work on a much-needed assignment, or hang out with friends between classes, there is no lack of places on campus to bundle up and hide from the cold!

The Women’s Center - Since 1972, the WC has served as a welcoming and empowering space for the female-identifying community at Tufts. It offers a cozy spot to read about intersectional feminism on the window seat, watch movies for your poli sci class, or do some Pinterest-inspired art! The access to coffee and snacks is a bonus that makes the WC feel even more like home! And it doubles as a place to celebrate the achievements of women and understand societal structures that relate to power, privilege, and oppression.

Barnum Hall - Arguably one of the most historic and iconic Tufts buildings, Barnum is the home of the Tisch College of Civic Life, the Office of Sustainability, and the Film and Media Studies Program. On any given day, I can always count on listening to guest speakers, attending civic events, and seeing friendly faces whenever I walk into Barnum. What was once a museum of natural history, Barnum now serves as the perfect mix of quiet corners to study and classrooms to foster discussions.

Carm - I have recently fallen in love with Carmichael Dining Hall—the uphill and smaller of the two dining halls. The huge windows and quiet environment offer an atmosphere conducive to studying while photosynthesizing. Whenever I find myself grabbing breakfast or lunch at odd times of the day, Carm is my go-to. And bonus that they are completely peanut, tree-nut, and gluten-free!

Ginn Library - One of the benefits of Tufts is the proximity to Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and access to their facilities and events. When I want to study without distractions, I always go to the quiet room at Ginn Library. I swear that you can read faster and write better essays when you are surrounded by grad students and/or are romanticizing your life. And Ginn is the perfect place to do just that.

The Sink - Of course, no list is complete without giving a big shout-out to the Sink! This student-run coffee shop in the Campus Center is the perfect place to study or hang out with friends. I always recommend the Medford Fog or Lucy in the Chai, but their other signature coffees and teas are just as popular! And make sure to stay tuned for open mic nights and specialty drinks!
