My Favorite Spots in Davis Square

Nov 06
Ishika Gupta Jumbo Talk

Davis Square is one of those places that feels like a second home to me, especially with its proximity to Tufts and the convenience of the shuttle that takes students there from campus. Over the years, it’s become my go-to spot when I need a quick break from the demands of college life, and I’ve come to appreciate the variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants it has to offer. Whether I’m looking for a cozy place to study, grab a quick bite, or catch up with friends, Davis always has something that fits my mood.

Mr. Crêpe is hands down my favorite café in Davis Square. It’s the kind of place where I can hunker down with my laptop and work through a long study session, or just relax with friends over some delicious crêpes. They have such an extensive menu that it’s hard to choose, but I always seem to come back for their buttery, flaky croissants paired with a hot cappuccino when I need a quick snack. And when I’m in the mood for more of a meal, their Strawberry-Nutella crêpe is a classic that never disappoints. I also love that they offer a range of options beyond crêpes, like acai bowls, salads, and soups which is perfect for mixing things up!

Another favorite spot of mine is Genki Ya. It’s my go-to place when I’m craving sushi or want to enjoy a relaxed meal with friends. I love the smooth roll with tempura, avocado, and cream cheese, it's the perfect combination of crispy and creamy. Their steamed or pan-fried gyoza are my must-have appetizers. The atmosphere at Genki Ya is also chill; I’ve had casual meals there when I just wanted to unwind and also have dressed up to have dinner with friends for a more special night out. Plus, they have mochi ice cream, which is one of my all-time favorite desserts—I never leave without getting some!

Davis Square has so much more to explore, and every time I go, I discover something new. Whether it’s grabbing bubble tea at Gong Cha, shopping for unique finds at Magpie, or even just strolling through the square to take in the lively atmosphere, there’s always something to look forward to. Speaking of Magpie—it is the cutest little local independent store that sells Jewelry, birthday cards, postcards and so many other items. Every time I need to get a birthday card for a friend or postcards, I always end up there.

Among my other favorites is J.P. Licks for ice cream. It’s my go-to spot when I want a quick, sweet treat, and they always have a variety of flavors, including fun seasonal ones like pumpkin in the fall. It’s also a nice place to hang out with friends or just grab a cone and go for a walk around the square.

Of course, the highlight of Davis square is the access to the Red Line with the MBTA. Just a few stops on the Red Line you can reach Porter Square, Cambridge and many other places. I also like walking to Davis sometimes when the weather is good and getting some fresh air! I highly recommend every Tufts student to check Davis Square out!
