How Voices of Tufts Led Me to Apply Early Decision

Jun 14
Kiara Rogers Jumbo Talk

Choosing the right college can feel overwhelming, but Tufts University made my decision clear after I attended their transformative Voices program. Even though the program was virtual at the time due to COVID restrictions, it had a profound impact on my choice to apply Early Decision.

Exploring colleges during the pandemic was challenging. Like many others, I was unable to visit campuses or meet people face-to-face, which added a layer of difficulty to the process. Voices served as an introduction to current undergraduates, faculty, and staff for prospective high school students through panel discussions, tours (now both virtual and in person), and social programming events.

The program is specifically designed to highlight the diversity and inclusivity at Tufts. Through various interactive sessions and workshops, I gained firsthand experience of campus life. Hearing from passionate professors and enthusiastic students provided a sense of the university’s commitment to inclusivity and academic excellence.

After engaging with current students and faculty through Voices, I felt confident that Tufts was the best place for me to spend the next four years. The emphasis on diversity and inclusion, combined with the supportive community, made a lasting impression. This clarity led me to apply Early Decision, as I was eager to demonstrate my commitment to a university that aligns with my values and aspirations.

Reflecting on my journey, Voices was pivotal in helping me choose Tufts. It confirmed that Tufts is a place where I can grow both academically and personally.

Having now completed my first and second years at Tufts, I can attest that Voices truly embodies the spirit of the people and university. The community that I felt through the screen is even more vibrant in person, and I appreciate how prevalent and genuine that feeling is every day I step on campus. Whether it’s engaging with a professor, making new friends in the dining hall, or simply walking through campus and receiving friendly waves from familiar faces, the sense of community is palpable and all-encompassing.

If you are considering participating in Voices, whether online or in person, I highly recommend it. The program provides a genuine sense of what life at Tufts is like. Don’t miss out on this "jumbo" chance to see why Tufts might be the perfect fit for you!
