Your college essay is the ideal way to showcase your personality in a holistic way. I approached the task as a profound journey of self-reflection, recognizing it as an important opportunity to convey who I am. While finding the perfect topic can feel overwhelming, I kept in mind that admissions were just eager to hear more about me. My objective was to maintain authenticity and genuineness throughout my essay.
When I began writing, my mind was flooded with numerous ideas, making it challenging to narrow down my focus. To streamline my thoughts, I posed a few fundamental questions: what part of my personality do I want admissions to know that they don’t yet just by looking at my application? What stories can I reflect on that are core memories to who I am and how I function?
My essay served as a narrative, revealing who I am. I knew that admissions wouldn’t have known about my love for businesses and entrepreneurship just by looking at my application, seeing as I am STEM oriented and pre-med. As a young eight-year-old girl, I loved the idea of owning a business so much that I opened a “nail salon” and a “dance camp” in my neighborhood. My narrative came full circle detailing how I matured and learned through these experiences while emphasizing my fervor for businesses, creativity, and leadership.
As I reflect back on this essay two years later, I find that everything I wrote then remains true. At my core, I am still that girl with an entrepreneurial mindset, excited about the future and where my passions may bring me. If you are writing your essay for Tufts or revisiting your existing work, let the essence of who you are shine through. After all, this authenticity aligns seamlessly with the spirit of Tufts!
