Something I’ve realized during my time at Tufts is how quickly the years go by. I remember a senior telling me when I first started to take in every moment because it would be over before I knew it—and now, I feel the same way. There are still a lot of things I want to do in and around Boston before I graduate, so here’s my bucket list!
Kayaking on the Charles River:
Since my first walk along the Charles River, I’ve always wanted to spend a day kayaking there. I still haven’t done it, and with the weather cooling down, I hope to get out on the water before it gets too cold. If I have time, I might even have a picnic afterward with some snacks by the river and watch the sunset over the Charles because every time I have passed that area on the green line, it looks absolutely beautiful.
Day Trip to Portland, Maine:
A trip to Portland, Maine, has been on my list for a while. It’s known for its fresh lobster and vibrant food scene, and it’s only about a two-hour drive (or bus ride) from Boston, so it’s super accessible. I’d love to stroll through the Old Port District, with its cobblestone streets, and check out the shops, art galleries, and coffee spots. Experiencing the fall colors in New England is something I don’t want to miss either. Plus, I’m a big fan of Noah Kahan, and his album Cape Elizabeth has always inspired me to visit Maine. I’d love to go to Cape Elizabeth, put on my headphones, and listen to his song "Maine" while taking in the coastal views.
Hiking in the Middlesex Fells Reservation:
The Middlesex Fells Reservation is so close to Tufts, and I’ve been wanting to go for a hike there for a while. Last summer in Talloires, I fell in love with hiking, and it made me want to explore more trails back home. The Fells seem like the perfect escape—a chance to disconnect from the busy college life and enjoy some fresh air. I’m hoping to go soon while the weather is still nice. I’ve heard you can get some amazing views of the surrounding areas, and I’m excited to see Massachusetts from above.
Whale Watching:
Whale watching is a big deal in Massachusetts, and it’s something I haven’t done yet. While I’ve gone dolphin watching before, I’ve never seen whales in the wild, and it’s on my list. Massachusetts, being on the edge of the North Atlantic Ocean, is an ideal spot for this. I’ve been thinking of heading to Cape Cod to make it happen—its location is perfect for spotting whales, and I’ve read that the chances of seeing them are high. It would be amazing to experience this before I graduate.
I want this year to be full of new experiences and I have enjoyed every moment at Tufts and want to make the most of my little time left here. That is why this year, I’m determined to check these off my list and make the most of my senior year!
