An Excursion to Chinatown!
An incredible area of Boston is Chinatown- a neighborhood downtown that is a cultural gem emulating Chinese culture and community. Here you can find…
Although my workload has kept me quite busy, I’ve done a great job of surrounding myself with people who remind me to take breaks, have similar hobbies, and most importantly that I can just enjoy my time with. During the week, it’s natural to be working and running from one place to the next, but here at Tufts everyone seems to create a great (and important) balance between working hard and also just enjoying being a college student. Being just outside of Boston and near Davis & Harvard Square- it is essential to take advantage of what our optimal location offers us. You can always go into the city to see a concert or a movie- which college students get discounts for in most places- or you could grab a bite to eat and go shopping. Maybe even meet up with some high school friends who may be attending school in and around Boston as well.
Since campus is so cozy and near practically everything you would need, it is easy to find yourself in a rut of staying on campus! I know I did. Before Thanksgiving break I had a lot of assignments due and found myself extra busy with extracurriculars. Even after the Thanksgiving break, my friends and I hadn’t all seen each other in a while so it was long overdue for a little reunion!
Last Thursday, my friends and I didn’t have too much homework so we jumped on the T and two stops later, got off at Harvard Square. Very similar to our own Davis Square right near Tufts, Harvard Square is conveniently close and filled with a variety of restaurants and stores that you can enjoy. The main purpose of our trip to Harvard Square was that one of our friends needed to choose glasses frames at an optical store in the center of Harvard Square. Given the precautions in place as a result of the pandemic, only one other person was allowed inside so anyone walking by enjoyed watching eight college students communicate through the glass giving thumbs up and thumbs down opinions. Let’s just say there was a lot of confusion and happy chaos. Many frames later, the group came to a consensus so our errand for the night was done! By this time, it was around 7:30- time for dinner! With so many options it took us a while to make a decision but we decided on ramen from Hokkaido Ramen Santouka Harvard Square. Although usually very busy, we were lucky enough that all of us were seated quickly. We each ordered a ramen bowl and some appetizers for the table. Along with enjoying tasty food, it was so nice to go off campus for the night and enjoy each other’s company. Often with every one’s different class schedules, there will always be a different combination of friends at meals, but it was so nice to have everyone there and catch up. It goes to show that even something as simple as grabbing a bite to eat nearby, or choosing out glasses for a friend is a great way to take much needed breaks from work and enjoy the company of friends!
