Briana’s Ultimate Tier List of Boston Activities
The city is my campus? Not quite, rather I have a beautiful Medford Tufts community while being a foot away from Boston, a vibrant, youthful, historic, yet innovative city. I’m glad to call it my home away from Vancouver!
As you can get lost browsing in a big city, here is a tier list showcasing some of my favourite activities!
If it’s your last day on Earth, you must go to:
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum because it is conveniently located beside the Schol of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) on the Fenway campus. You can get here with our hourly SMFA shuttle. I love spending hours learning about Isabella Stewart’s story within her decorated garden and art collection. You will find anything such as Greek and Roman sarcophagus cases to enticing portraits to the Asian ceramics.
If you have some company with friends and family, you definitely should go to:
The Charles River Esplanade for a great view of the city skyline or a lovely sunset. Accessible by the Red Line through our Davis Square campus shuttle, I enjoy running, walking, and chatting with friends along the community path right by the river. This is one of my favorite sit-down spaces when it gets warmer.
If you are feeling down during snowy winters, don’t fret. I enjoyed my first Boston blizzard at Seaport in the Snowport Winter Market with my friends. We ate lots of great foods such as alfredo spaghetti from a cheese wheel, hot chocolate, and cinnamon rolls amongst craft shops. I also bought my Christmas presents there for friends and family back home.
If you have a full day off campus, you could visit:
Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, which is 30-45 minutes away on the Commuter Rail train. Being in the historic town of Salem, there are lots of fun festivities such as witch houses, historic reenactments, and diner food. The museum being at the center houses extensive maritime, nature, and Asian collections of art and artifacts. If you are feeling spooky, take an adventure there during Halloween!
If you are alone and want to go downtown, you can go to:
Brattle Book Shop especially if strolling around the Park Street Station (on the Green Line train). When it’s not raining, I love getting lost in their outdoor secondhand books space. I’ve discovered fun medieval manuscripts and letters preserved in their special collections. While you are nearby, take a walk to Chinatown to enjoy some pastries at Ho Yuen Bakery for my favourite Pineapple Bun or dim sum at Hei La Moon. You can also have a nice picnic with these treats in the Boston Common.
