My Top 3 Off Campus Adventures
There are a ton of reasons why I chose Tufts (amazing students and professors, a collaborative atmosphere, a beautiful campus to name a few) and…
One of the most stressful things about my transition to college was getting my randomly assigned roommate. Getting the email with the name of the girl who I would be living with for the next year was one of the most exciting, yet scary things that happened to me over the summer. Luckily, my roommate, Glorious, is one of the nicest people on the planet and she’s been my “Built in Bestie” ever since we moved in for our pre-orientation. While we were eating at Dewick (which is way better than Carm by the way!) I interviewed my favorite roommate and learned about how she’s been experiencing freshman year so far.
Let’s start with an easy question. What’s your favorite thing about Tufts?
Definitely the people. I’ve started to make a family here and I feel welcome now I’m part of all of these different communities on campus.
I totally agree. What’s it like living in Hodgdon with the best roommate?
I love living in Hodge because of the location, but I wish my friends uphill were closer. The trek up the hill can be a lot sometimes, but Hodge is great because it’s right next to my favorite place to eat Hodge on the Run. The common room and study room are really nice, but our room can get really hot.
Having Hodge on the Run right there is definitely great. How did you find a balance between academics, extracurriculars, and your social life?
I make sure that my number one priority is always my schoolwork because at the end of the day that’s why I’m here. I schedule my social life around my prior commitments and so far it’s worked out well. I always keep in mental health in mind to make sure that I’m not doing too much.
Mental health is so important! With that being said, what resources have you used at Tufts?
The FIRST Center for sure has been a great help getting things I need for my classes! I also have 24 hour access which is nice. My teachers are also really great resources because they really want to help and they really aren’t as scary as we all think they are.
What’s your favorite class?
Right now, it’s a tie between Musical Theater Dance and Contemporary Multiethnic Lit. I love that Musical Theater Dance is turning me into a dancer and helping me with my acting and stage presence. Contemporary Multiethnic Lit is great because my professor is the best and we can have great discussions about any and everything.
What’s your homework load like?
The workload is manageable because I always try to get ahead. Right now my course load is pretty light, but my extracurriculars are time consuming so I want to prepare for future semesters where I’ll have tougher classes by forming good study habits now.
Finally, what clubs are you in and why did you choose to join them?
I’m in Mock Trial. I chose to do it because it was something my high school didn’t have, but I’ve always wanted to try. It’s definitely been really fun and gotten me out of my comfort zone. I’m also doing the theater department’s fall musical, Almanac. It’s a student written show about Black art and what it means to be a Black artist which is very exciting because I’m surrounded by talented people who embody Black excellence.
That's awesome! Thanks for doing this interview roomie!
