A Local's Guide to Boston
Dear reader,
As a Tufts student, from time to time you’ll want to find something interesting to do in the Boston area, but might feel overwhelmed or a little lost on what to do, especially if you’re not familiar with the city. This blog post is here to help give recommendations from a Boston native on my go-to spots in the city whether for food, fun events, or a great time with friends.
To start, my first recommendation would have to be Boston’s West End, specifically the area around North Station and TD Garden on Causeway street. This specific street has a multitude of great cuisine and dessert spots to choose from, including an entirely indoor food hall called The Hub. I love being able to catch a movie at the AMC on Causeway, it’s personally my preference over the Boston Common location, and I have a passion for going to concerts and supporting the Celtics so TD Garden is another frequent spot of mine.
The next place I frequent often is East Boston, which also happens to be where I’m originally from. The blue line of the MBTA runs right throughout all of East Boston as well as through parts of downtown right by the Aquarium. Eastie is not only great for its Italian and Latin food, but also the many parks the neighborhood boasts and beautiful views of the Boston skyline (Piers park is my personal favorite). The food spots I would have to recommend here are Angela’s Cafe, D’Parma, or Oliveira’s, all of which I grew up eating at so they hold a special place in my heart.
The last recommendation I’ll give is walking the Charles River Esplanade. This long stretch of green not only serves as a great walking trail right along the Charles, but also the Hatch Shell frequently has performances and events for the city to enjoy. I love going here during the summer and fall and walking along the paths as the seasons change.
These are just some of my many go-to things to do while off-campus, and I hope you will try them out for yourself. Boston really has so many fascinating things to explore, so I encourage you to do it all!
