Here’s an overview of what a typical Monday might look like for me as a senior living off-campus.
9 AM: Wake up! I’m very lucky that I generally don’t have anything scheduled before 10:30 most days, allowing me to have a pretty relaxing morning. I usually use this time to catch up with social media and emails, as well as to see how my day looks.
10:30 AM: Class-time! On Mondays I have a psychology class held in a semi-small auditorium for an hour and fifteen minutes. I’ll usually have some yogurt and coffee while the professor is lecturing.
12 PM: Lunch! If I’ve actually followed my weekend to-do list, I’ve probably been able to cook something in bulk for the week. My most recent creation was Quinoa Black Bean Burgers – recipe found at healthyeatsforall.com! I’ll usually eat in the Women’s Center, and get some Netflix in during this time (I just finished Mad Men!).
1:30 PM: Class time again – this time it’s General Physiology: also a lecture-based class for an hour and fifteen minutes, and also one of my favorite classes as a pre-medical student and a biopsychology major. #scienceiscool
3 PM: Back to the Women’s Center, but this time for work. I’m a PR intern, and one of my jobs is to create a weekly e-list for students to let them know about different events and opportunities that may be happening on campus, which is what I work on on Mondays!
4:30 PM: Off to the music building, one of my favorite buildings on campus, to attend Gospel Choir recitation. This class is famous at Tufts for being on the “things-to-take before you graduate” list, and I can see why. Despite the Christian context, the songs can really resonate with people of any (or no) faith, and singing in such a large group (~225 people) is a really unique experience.
5:45 PM: After recitation, I head to the rehearsal rooms to practice piano. As a music minor I’m taking graded instrumental lessons for the year, and am currently learning a classic that’s been on my list of things to learn for a while: Claire De Lune by Claude Debussy (link to the piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fvo_iOuSck).
6:30 PM: I am finally done with all officially scheduled things for the day! Usually I’ll have some sort of meeting to attend, or I’ll meet a friend/friends for dinner, but it depends on the week.
8:30 PM: I’m typically home by this time unless I have an event. Usually I’ll take this time to work on readings/assignments for classes that need to be done, or on my Tisch Scholar project (more to come about that in a future blog post!), or reviewing material to make sure I’m keeping up with it.
11 PM: Time for more Netflix!
12-12:30 AM: Lunch planning for the next day, and then bed!
Hopefully this gives you an idea of what a typical day might look like for me! Obviously every day is different – for instance on Tuesdays through Thursdays I actually go to gym classes (which is huge for me, by the way) – and on Fridays I have more free time to see friends, but otherwise I think this schedule is a pretty good representation!
