It's a fairly common occurrence that we'll bump into students on campus who feel they need to see campus for themselves to really get a sense of the vibe. While travel is limited during the pandemic, we reached out to current students to describe the vibe for you. Read what they have to say:
"Tufts is a hub of chaotic-good energy. Walking around the Tufts campus feels like you’re surrounded by fan-favorite television show side-characters who finally got the main character spin-off they deserved … now living fruitful lives where they are free to explore their truest passions without restraint." - Zanna Amanfu '24
"Encapsulating the “Tufts Vibe'' concisely can be a difficult task, since my Tufts looks a lot different from that of an econ major, an engineer, or an athlete. However, I can confidently say that warmth exists everywhere. Tufts students are chill, don’t take themselves too seriously, love the outdoors, and are the friendliest kids I’ve ever met. In sum, the Tufts vibe is crunchy granola in the best way." - Marie Kazibwe '24
“Tufts is a place where you can—and be actively encouraged to—take a comparative history course in the morning, physics lab in the afternoon, and biostatistics project in the evening. It’s a place where interdisciplinary interests flourish, from the classroom to the real world.” - Siwaar Abouhala '23
"No single set of words can truly encompass every aspect of the Tufts student body, given its makeup of people each so unique in their backgrounds, interests and identities. However, what can be generalized to all of Tufts is that its students, despite their individual natures and pursuits, are deeply invested in the whole (whether that be the whole school or the whole world) and are selfless in their pursuits to better it." - Susannah Murray '24
"I would describe the vibe at Tufts with an emphasis on curiosity and community. Every Jumbo brings their own novelty to the Hill; there is a wonder and instant familiarity with everyone you meet. Tufts has no limits to curiosity or community–we proudly embrace both." - Blake Anderson '24
"The Tufts vibe is late-night a cappella performances, collaborating with peers in the Science and Engineering Complex, weekend Davis Square adventures, and fall picnics on Pres lawn. Most importantly, Jumbos are kind, open-minded, curious, and always motivated to lift each other up." - Josh Cohen '24
"Tufts' vibe is unique in that classes are academically rigorous, but not competitive or cutthroat. The collaborative environment nurtures intellectual curiosity and achievement, while making students feel comfortable and at home at Tufts." - Emma Sonnenblick '23
"Tufts is a place with some of the smartest people you’ll ever meet who care about learning for the sake of it and want to help you do the same." - Malcolm Cox '23
