Interviewing at Tufts: For Applicants and Alumni

Dec 01
Mackenzie Gross Inside Admissions

Dear Applicants,

Outside of the traditional application components, Tufts Admissions offers the opportunity to interview with alumni volunteers and senior student interviewers. These interviews are entirely optional- you do not have to interview to be a competitive applicant! This is a low-stakes, casual conversation for you to gain some insight on the Tufts college experience from people who lived it.

As stated on the TAN portion of the website under Volunteer for Admissions: “The primary purposes of the interview are to make Tufts more accessible to our applicants, to provide an opportunity for applicants to ask questions and to allow applicants and alumni to share information that might not otherwise be found in the application.” All that to say, you can use this as an opportunity to share more about yourself & learn more about the university from the student perspective.

If you are interested in having an interview, please indicate so on your application. We cannot guarantee that every applicant who requests an interview will be granted one- there are more requests for interviews than we are presently able to accommodate. (Whether you are granted an interview or not carries no weight for an admissions decision!) If you elect to interview, remember to take deep breaths, relax, and be yourself.

Dear Alumni,

Who better to speak to aspiring Jumbos about all things Tufts? Who else could be a stronger resource on the Tufts experience? TAN members join the world of college admissions by offering a few hours of their time during the winter season to speak one-on-one with prospective students. You are matched with students in your geographic area and have the opportunity to get to know each other via a half hour virtual interview. This unique opportunity allows applicants to ask questions in a comfortable environment and offers alumni the opportunity to remain closely connected to the Tufts community while sharing their Tufts expertise. TAN members are a valuable resource to Admissions, they help to shape the future class of Jumbos and aid in continuing the legacy of the university.
