The Medford Experience!
I remember thinking to myself when I first applied to Tufts, “Why Medford of all places?”. My whole life, all I ever wanted was to move to a big…
Every year, the Tufts Alumni group puts on Senior Dinners. The graduating class gathers in small groups at the President’s house and enjoys a beautiful dinner with young alumni and beloved faculty members. At the end, students are given an opportunity to say a few words to the group--reliving wonderful memories, thanking the people who have helped us on our journeys, and making observations about what factors had a major impact on our college careers.
This is what I would have said.
I wanted to make a comment, building off of what people have contributed so far. A lot of you have come up and talked about the sub-community within Tufts that has been meaningful: the rugby team, the marathoners, your freshman year girlfriends, BUILD, math study group, the Computer Science Exchange. And all of these groups are amazing, and supportive, and have played a huge role in our individual experiences and development.
But one of the things that makes Tufts so special is that there isn’t just one of these groups--there’s no isolated patch of awesome. Every person here has at least one group of peers that has served as a valuable community, and many of you have way more than that.
And being a part of a larger community that promotes the development of such close-knit groups, is incredible. The idea that we’re in this bubble that has so many opportunities for its members to find each other, and bond with each other, and make amazing things happen while they’re doing it, is, I think, what makes Tufts stand out.
