Congrats to the newest Jumbos accepted through ED II! Connections are already being made through Facebook and other social media platforms. My colleagues are gearing up to read even MORE applications for Regular Decision. And I’m heaving a GIANT sigh of relief.
This was my first time bringing in a class as dean of admissions. And, as a result, I will always be connected to the Class of 2021, and particularly to the applicants who put their trust and their dreams in our hands through early decision. It’s not always easy to commit to a college in the early round, particularly when it’s binding. A huge thank you to the students who made the choice to do so!
As applications came rushing in for ED I and ED II, it was our job to read, absorb and advocate for the students who had put their trust in us. As you know by now, we receive a lot of applications. And most of the students who take the time to complete our application could be successful here academically. It’s what makes our holistic review process an important one – through essays and letters of recommendation, interviews and the things you occupy your time with outside of the classroom, our job is make a case for why YOU would be an excellent addition to the student body here.
Though I’ve been here at Tufts for a little over eight years and have witnessed committee first hand many times, my perspective as dean was completely enlightening. Seeing the care and thought that went into each and every decision was humbling. My colleagues and I were given a peek into the lives of each and every applicant, and, with that, the privilege of getting to know each person a little bit better. The responsibility was a great one, and we took it very seriously, recognizing that when we had to say “no”, we were saying no to some amazing applicants.
I continue to be wowed by the student body here at Tufts – smart, engaged, intellectual yet playful, worldly yet grounded. It’s a community where people learn from each other in and out of the classroom. And, if you do decide that our community could be the right place for you, please know that the admissions team will take our time to learn about you and what you would bring to this campus. After seeing how my colleagues considered applicants in early decision, I can guarantee that your application will be evaluated carefully and thoughtfully.
Congratulations to the first members of the Class of 2021!
