What This Year Taught Me

Dec 17
Milly Nguyen Jumbo Talk

As this year wraps up, I’ve been thinking about how much I’ve grown and learned, both in school and just in life in general. This year wasn’t perfect, but it definitely taught me a lot. Here are a few things I want to bring with me into 2026:

1. Be thankful for anything and everything

Life is full of ups and downs, and you really can’t have one without the other. Even on the harder days, there’s always something to be grateful for. I’ve never regretted choosing to look at the positives or appreciating the people and moments that have helped me become the person I am today.

2. Put yourself out there

Getting out of your comfort zone is so hard, and I’m definitely still figuring it out. But every time I’ve done something new, I’ve been glad I did. Meet new people, join things, talk to your professors; college is the time to explore and learn more about yourself.

3. Be disciplined

As finals season approaches, I’m more tired, honestly, but finishing strong matters. Whether it’s school or personal goals, sticking to the things I promised myself has made me feel more confident and capable. Push yourself to be consistent with with your effort and don’t break promises you make to yourself.

4. Have fun

Work hard, but also enjoy being in college. Go out, sleep in, take breaks, and do the things that make you happy. One thing I love about being here at Tufts is having the freedom to make those choices and make time for myself.
