Whether you are already a well-seasoned connoisseur or a wide-eyed amateur, college will likely give you plenty of opportunities to drink copious amounts of coffee. Tufts happens to have many great locations to grab a cup of joe, and I decided I would share with y’all the insider secrets of the Tufts coffee scene. These cups of coffee are hot -- just like my definitive list of hot takes.
CAVEAT: Making this list was incredibly difficult. The following contenders could justifiably be put in any order. Regardless of where you grab your caffeine from, know that you’re in good hands with the friendly staff of any of these locations. :D
So, without further ado, here is my ranking of places on campus to get a cup of coffee and (maybe) study. ;)
5) Mugar Café
This place has saved me countless times. My 8:30 class (which I had three times a week!!!) was only manageable because of the coffee Mugar Café provided to me. Although there are limited options for seating/studying, its proximity to the Res Quad makes it the quintessential coffee stop for those of us who live “uphill” at Tufts. Thank you, Mugar Café, thank you.
4) SMFA Café
Are you a dual-degree student looking for a pick-me-up? LOOK NO FURTHER THAN THE SMFA CAFÉ! This spot is nestled in the heart of the SMFA campus in Boston. I would definitely recommend this spot to any Tufts student looking for a serene yet scenic space. Although I am not an SMFA student, I have enjoyed a truly wonderful cup of coffee in this beautiful place. As you sip on your drink, your eyes may wander and enjoy the various art pieces on display. Take it all in, and enjoy.
3) The Sink
The hip and fun coffee shop of your dreams. This student-run café located in the Mayer Campus Center has everything: vibes, caffeine, laughs, good food, friends, and more! With all sorts of custom drinks, The Sink allows you to explore the most creative coffee concoctions known to mankind. My personal favorite is the Voldemort: drip coffee, espresso, and chocolate. Wow, I need one ASAP -- I suggest you do the same.
2) Hotung Café
Spacious, comfortable seating? Check. The perfect environment for productive studying? Check. The best cup of coffee on campus? I’ll get back to you on that one. However, the Hotung Café is my happy place. Just being there puts me in a good mood. It has that coffee aroma in the air that makes you feel right at home the second you walk in the door. I do some of my best work here; I am truly unstoppable with a cup of Hotung’s iced(!) coffee and my computer.
1) Kindlevan Café
This is it. The big one. The best place to grab a coffee on campus is… Kindlevan Café!! With its ample seating in the newly renovated Science & Engineering Complex and variety of drink options, this place can do it all. The high, glass ceilings let in plenty of natural light and are perfect for daydreaming in-between homework assignments -- I know my head gets lost in the clouds sometimes. I believe this place is the best for a reason, be sure to check it out!
