“Put your hands in the air! Put your hands in the air! Ay ay ay ay!”
That’s the sound of Spring Fling!
It’s one of my favorite traditions at Tufts. Think of it as a giant annual concert celebrating the end of a fruitful year. Organized by the Tufts University Student Collective, the coordinators spend a year curating the lineup, catering to the music tastes of students, and hoping it’ll be a day to remember, etched forever in a college scrapbook of memories. As a senior, this year will be quite bittersweet for me, and I can’t wait to partake in one last hurrah.
At the crack of dawn, people awaken to get dressed up with their friends and hype it up. You can often hear music playing out on the lawn, and all the dining halls open up early, nourishing students for the long day ahead. There’s a grill on the residential quad where students are digging into hot dogs, pizza, and cotton candy.
Around 11:00 am, students start forming lines on the hill to enter a drastically different Academic Quad, a giant sound stage set up halfway down the quad, speakers flanking the sides, able to be heard for miles. It’s perfect for any artist to rock it out to the screams of thousands of Tufts students. Placed on the lawn are tents of trinkets like bubbles and sunglasses, a rest and relaxation corner, and food for 4500 students.
Artists will play one by one for about 30 minutes to an hour, inviting certain students to hop on stage and have the time of their lives. Previous artists have included Flo Rida, Aminé, and Cheat Codes. This year, we’ll have Hot Chelle Rae, Quinn XCII, and Tinashe.
I can’t wait to live it up this year!
