Looking ahead, I can see the rays of the fast-approaching spring break shining over the distant hills and mountain peaks, beckoning me to take a well-earned rest from a semester that has taught me how to manage my time and balance my academic and personal life. One of the Civic Semester alumni, Alex, once told us that college life is a mix of socialization—where you build connections—and the responsibility of keeping up with classes while still making time for fun with friends.
Now that midterm exams are over, the energy on campus is high, and the excitement for spring break is everywhere. I am eagerly anticipating a well-deserved rest after weeks of hard work and long study hours. Reflecting on the first half of the semester, I feel encouraged, knowing that perseverance leads to success and that the challenges along the way make the journey meaningful. I have built valuable friendships, sharing thoughtful conversations and exchanging warm smiles in passing—a simple yet powerful reminder of the connections I’ve made.
This spring break will be particularly memorable as I will spend it in the Mississippi Delta. I will join fellow students and faculty from the Friedman School of Nutrition on an inspiring trip focused on community engagement and action-based research. Our work will primarily center on expanding research in nutrition and integrating food into healthcare systems. During orientation, we were asked a thought-provoking question: “Would you rather receive nutritional education at six years old or when you’re already in the operating room?” This perspective resonated with me, reinforcing my belief in the importance of prevention over cure.
The opportunity to participate in this program is something I deeply cherish. It will not only allow me to apply what I have learned in the classroom but also challenge me to think critically about real-world issues and contribute meaningfully to the community. I look forward to collaborating with like-minded individuals, exchanging ideas, and gaining new insights that will shape my academic and professional journey.
Tufts has significantly shaped my path, providing opportunities that emphasize service learning over the traditional “savior” mentality. This trip is a testament to the university’s commitment to fostering meaningful engagement and sustainable change.
As the countdown to spring break begins, I feel both excitement and gratitude for the experiences ahead. This is not just a break from classes—it is a chance to immerse myself in a new environment, connect with incredible people, and contribute to a cause I truly believe in. I can’t wait to embark on this journey and see where it leads.
