Spring Break Arrives

Mar 17
Amos Tiyo Jumbo Talk

Spring break comes with all the brightness that it sparks in our lives. It has been long coming, and for sure, most students at Tufts have been longing for it. It has been a super packed and extremely busy first part of the spring semester, at least for me. I have had 9 a.m. classes for the full five working days, and to be really honest, I am not much of a morning person. However, one thing that has been so much fun is seeing myself being able to pull off that kind of consistency in waking up and showing up to my classes.

I have since heard some of my friends talk about their favorite semester in college, and trust me, I did not hear the spring semester being mentioned. That got me a little curious as to why. I then realized from my own experience, and with a little backing from science as well, that colder conditions together with early darkness are two catalysts of a “not-so-much-fun semester.” Although that could be the case, I have still found reasons to enjoy the semester as it is.

Right now, the trees are showing signs of life. They are starting to bloom from afar. The faces of my fellow Jumbos are shining with the sun’s brightness as they are now able to sit on the President’s Lawn and enjoy a conversation or two, since it is no longer covered with piles of snow. The big coats have now been dropped and given a rest, deep in the closets where they belong until far into the end of fall. As of last night, at the time of writing, daylight saving time ended, which is always a pleasant surprise.

I went for my first run to Boston today while only dressed in a light pair of shorts and a simple T-shirt. You cannot imagine the amount of joy I felt during the run. It was super rejuvenating. I am now waiting for the break just to take a moment to sit back and reflect on how the semester has been for me. I think this time around I will not be going anywhere or doing the program that I did last year, which was the Delta Greens. Instead, I am taking the time to get back to any pending work that I need to finish and start studying for my midterms, which are in the week right after spring break.

From here on, it is going to be a lovely, smooth terrain. I am all smiles just thinking about the second part of this semester. The warm weather is openly the biggest contributor to my anticipated happiness.
