Senior Year So Far

Dec 11
Jumbo Talk

The start of my senior year has come with many ups and downs, feels and reflections as I think back on my last 3 years at Tufts and look to my future. Here are a few of the highlights of my senior year so far:

1. My house, La Casa Latina

I think one of the hidden treasures of Tufts is the specialty housing, a program that allows students to live in culture and language houses. I have the honor of being the house manager this year for La Casa Latina, the Latinx culture house. My house is made of 9 other incredibly smart and funny Latinx students. In the month that we’ve been here, my house has gotten close very quickly. You can often find us sitting in the living room, ‘studying’ (more like chatting) until 2 am. Pilar might end up making us popcorn and Paloma will ask us to do a face mask. Justin might walk in wearing Mickey Mouse gloves that he bought for $4. We all might end up ordering a Popeyes family meal or insomnia cookies just because we like to eat. The nights I spend in this living room will be some of my most memorable moments of senior year.

2. Reconnecting with friends

I went abroad to Madrid in my Junior Spring. Some of my best friends and favorite people went abroad in our Junior Fall. Some were abroad for the whole year. So, I hadn’t seen some of my friends for more than a year. When I first got back on campus, I hung out with everyone for hours on end, just soaking up all the stories and growth that they experienced in the last year. I’ve heard stories from France, Chile and China. A year has changed us. People came back with new passions and new outlooks on life. We all came back with better language skills and excitement to thrive together during senior year.

3. Senior events

I can’t believe I’m a senior. The years have gone by way too quickly. Other than the job search and existential crisis, senior year comes with cool senior events. This past weekend I went to a game and hangout night at Lawn on D, a popular attraction in Boston with glowing swings. If you don’t know what Lawn on D is now, you will soon because it’s on every Boston college student’s Instagram! The senior class booked the venue for the night and even bussed us out there from Tufts. I got to take iconic and aesthetic Lawn on D photos and hangout with people who have been by my side since freshman year. There was music, food, lots of laughter and overall, a celebration of making it this far!

All of my senior year highlights so far involve people. The people who I surround myself with have been a critical part of my Tufts experience. I’m not sure where I will end up after I graduate in May, and neither do my friends! So, its super important to me to soak up the time that I have with them now. In a few years, I might not remember staying up to write an essay, but I will remember the goofy things we said during game night.
