My (Realistic) Goals for Spring Semester

Mar 16
Milly Nguyen Jumbo Talk

As the new year just started (I still can’t believe it’s already 2026), here are some fun and realistic goals I’m setting for myself this semester:

1. Try New Restaurants

Even though I grew up in the Greater Boston area, I still feel like I have barely explored around Tufts. I know Davis Square pretty well, and I have been to Harvard Square a few times, but I have never really spent time in Porter or Kendall. So far, Ramen O’ Bowl near Harvard Square has been one of my favorite vegetarian spots, but I know there are so many more good food spots I have yet to try.

2. Get Into Coloring

This one feels random, but I started coloring recently after seeing so many videos online. I bought a coloring book and markers just for fun and ended up loving it. It is way more relaxing than I expected, and it takes more focus than you would think. I want to try to keep it as a part of my night routine to wind down before bed.

3. Find a New Study Spot

I absolutely loved the JCC (Joyce Cummings Center) freshman year. But this year, I want to switch things up and find a new study spot. I’ve tried Tisch Library, but I’ve realized quiet spaces aren’t really for me. Fletcher Library is nice too, just a little dimmer than I prefer. Eaton Hall ended up being one of my go-to spots last fall, and I’m still figuring out where I can be the most productive this semester.

4. Fix My Sleep Schedule

Fall semester, I went to bed pretty late, around 1AM-2AM. This semester, I have a lot of early morning classes, so fixing my sleep schedule will definitely help me feel more awake. It also prevents me from wanting to take a mid-day nap (but sometimes it is unavoidable.) If I had to pick one main goal for the semester, it would probably be this. Sleep is so easy to push aside in college, but it really affects your health and everything you do.

5. Go Outside More

Boston winters are brutal. I have lived in Massachusetts my whole life and still am not used to it. This winter especially has felt long and freezing. I spend so much time inside, and I can tell it affects my mood. When it gets even slightly warmer, I want to actually go outside and walk around, sit in the sun, or just do anything that is not in my room.

Spring semester always feels like a reset for me. Overall, I feel like these goals are small, but simple, and realistic!
