When I first joined the Tufts Daily, I never imagined how much it would shape my college experience. As Tufts' student-run newspaper, the Daily has been an incredible community where I’ve developed leadership skills, built lasting friendships, and gained invaluable hands-on experience. Whether you’re looking to improve your writing, join a dynamic team with diverse roles, or simply try something new, the Tufts Daily is an amazing place to grow.
I signed up for the Daily as a freshman, unsure of what I wanted to do. Attending the first General Interest Meeting, I immediately knew I had to be part of this organization. The presenters were enthusiastic and passionate, and I was struck by how inclusive the Daily is. Regardless of your background or skill set, there’s a place for you—whether in writing, editing, art, video, podcasting, photojournalism, or even business. This variety means that no matter your interests, you’ll find a way to contribute. For me, I was drawn to the Business Team, excited to learn the ins and outs of running a student organization like a business.
One of the best aspects of the Daily is the room for growth. After my first semester on the Business Team, I stepped into a leadership role as the Business Director on the Managing Board. This was one of the most rewarding leadership experiences of my college career. Working alongside a dedicated team, I learned how to oversee departments, implement sales strategies, build relationships with vendors, and fundraise for a financially independent newspaper. It truly felt like running a small business. One of my proudest achievements was helping to increase stipends for writers and launching a new website—both steps that made the Daily more inclusive and accessible. We accomplished these goals while fostering a supportive environment where every contribution was valued.
The skills I gained through the Daily have been invaluable not just on campus, but in other areas of my life as well. I’ve been able to carry what I learned in leadership, communication, and business management into internships, class projects, and other leadership roles. Whether it’s strategizing with a team, balancing multiple responsibilities, or making data-driven decisions, the practical experience from the Daily has prepared me to excel in professional settings and beyond.
Beyond the business and leadership skills, the friendships I’ve formed through the Daily are some of the closest I’ve made at Tufts. There’s something about working toward a shared goal—publishing a newspaper every day—that brings people together. Whether we were staying late in the office to finalize a piece or brainstorming new ideas, we developed strong bonds built on trust and a shared passion. The challenges we faced brought us closer, and we always had each other’s backs.
The Daily isn’t just about work—it’s also about having fun. One of my favorite traditions is The Hunt, a massive scavenger hunt across campus. We also had leadership retreats that involved beautiful hikes, campfire songs, and games—perfect ways to build camaraderie and recharge. These social events are just as important as the work we do, strengthening our friendships and making the Daily experience even more rewarding.
If you’re looking for a space to learn, grow, and be part of an inclusive community, the Tufts Daily is that place. It’s more than just a newspaper—it’s a family of students committed to creativity, inclusivity, and making an impact on campus. I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences and friendships I’ve gained through the Daily, and I hope more students will take the opportunity to be part of this amazing organization.
