Looking Back on Fall Semester

Jumbo Talk

*Written in December 2020

It is now December and that means it’s finals season. Depending on what classes you take, finals can look a bit different. For two of my classes, I have final research papers to submit. For my other three classes, I have in-class exams. Sometimes, depending on the professors, the final can take place on the last day of school. Usually, finals take place after what is called the “Reading Period.” The Reading Period comes after the last day of classes and it is a time for you to study for your finals. During the reading period and the final period, libraries are full of students. It can be very hard to find a table, so one tip would be either to go early or you can even go off campus! Some people enjoy studying in cafes, but if that is distracting to you, the Boston Public Library is beautiful and a nice place to get work done. There are three libraries on campus: Tisch, Ginn, and Music library. Tich is the main library, and it has three floors but it can get full fast during finals. The Ginn Library is for graduate students but undergrads also go there to study. It is a lot quieter than Tisch. I personally do not go to the Lilly Music Library, but I have heard it is a gem to some since not many people know about it or go. Finals season can be stressful, but it is important to take moments to make sure you are taking care of yourself!

Looking back at this fall semester, my favorite class was Medical Anthropology. To be completely honest, I had no idea what to expect. However, I found myself lucky because not only did I find myself interested in the class but my other classes helped complement the topics learned in Medical Anthropology. Although I am not majoring in Anthropology, I enjoyed talking to the professor about the topics and writing the papers.

My favorite memory from this semester was a spontaneous trip to New York over Thanksgiving break. I am from California and I decided to stay on campus and travel to nearby places instead of flying back home. My friend from Brown and I explored around Boston and took a spontaneous trip to New York. On the trip, we won tickets to the broadway musical Wicked. I really enjoyed my sophomore fall since I am more familiar with the campus and people around the campus. I look forward to making more special memories!
