Jules and Monty: Week Two

Mar 23
Jumbo Talk

… a couple of days late. I apologize but spring break, the California sun, and fun times with friends gave me an opportunity to think of something other than this project for a week and I went with it! Life is back to normal today, thought, so here I am with my weekly update.

Episode Four:

Where Jules and Nancy attend the classic Kappa Fall Ball of which Jules’s brother, Cliff, is the “Lord”.

We filmed our three party episodes in the basement of DTD during reading period last semester over the course of two nights. Though fun, it was possibly one of the most stressful times as we were attempting to wrangle extras, produce a convincing party, and were constantly aware that finals were fast approaching and we were using all of our study time filming… totally worth it, though, as I think these episodes look awesome! My favorite behind the scene fact? Cole, aka Cliff, did that entire monologue to a completely silent crowd while we all pretended to be completely enthralled; almost every noise in the party was dubbed in later on!

Episode Five:

Ah young love… Jules and Monty have found each other at last and Mark seems to be pretty stoked about it.

The sequence during which Ben and Mark are talking while Jules and Monty are flirting was surprisingly difficult to film as we had to synchronize our conversations while ensuring it was all being captured on the one camera and in one take. Ed and I actually ended up memorizing and reciting the entirety of that “first encounter” scene, though you only see a little bit of it on camera—we liked the idea that the audience would be familiar enough with the Shakespearian dialogue that we could focus on the boys. Favorite line flub of the night? Ed saying “Oh tender sweet urgency, give me my sin again” instead of “Oh trespass sweetly urged…” WHAT? Doesn’t even make sense. #he tried #cut the boy a break.
