I'm back and I'm happy

Oct 24
Jumbo Talk

Hello! It has been a while since I have posted here. Just to give you an update: I began my second year at Tufts!! I still can’t believe it and I am amazed at how fast time flies – but still deeply grateful. That being said, this year hit me hard. I have added student leadership and club responsibilities, I’m taking more classes which require a lot, as well as juggling two part-time jobs and maintaining relationships. The past few weeks have left me feeling overwhelmed and trying to stay afloat. I am constantly trying to take care of myself. Though college can be generally overwhelming, there are a few things that are making me really happy right now:

1.     My room

Because I am an ACE Fellow, I live in a single room this year. It has been a big change from having a roommate, but having my own space is definitely amazing. My plan this year was to make my room a home away from home. To do that, I decided to make room decoration an ongoing project; I make and/or buy decorating pieces every week. It gives me something to look forward to and makes my room feel like mine!

2.     Sociology Class: Social Movements

This is my first ever Sociology class and going into it, I did not know what to expect. We have discussed what defines and constitutes a social movement, and how movements plan and achieve goals. We have also dissected various movements including Civil Rights, Feminist Movement, Solidarity in Poland, Apartheid in South Africa and, more recently, kneeling by NFL players. The class has made me appreciate how passionate people can be about various causes, and the work of those courageous people in shaping society. The class employs a lot of discussion and audio-visual material which definitely helps!

3.     Fall

Aaah!! The leaves are turning brown, the wind blows strongly and the temperature is just right – neither too cold nor too hot or humid. Fall in New England is perhaps one of the prettiest sites I have ever experienced. Whenever I walk around campus, I have to stop for a minute and just soak it all in (peep cover photo).
