Ahh, spring break. A time for catching up on sleep, snuggling up with Netflix (If you have not seen House of Cards, you have HOMEWORK PEOPLE GET ON THAT), and, after a few days, facing that sense of creeping boredom that’s been looming over your shoulder like a phantom with personal space issues. I mean, it happens; whether you’re in LA or trapped at home (or if you live in LA), after a few days of mucking about or being stuck on a long car ride, you need something fun to do. So to you, I present a new game to play when you are supremely bored!
It’s called “famous last words,” and here’s how it works: you and whomever you’re with have to make the most clever 5 word sentences you can, under the pretext that these are somebody’s last words and are followed by immediate, probably gruesome death. Cozy, right? It sounds a little stupid, but after a few good ones you’ll be much more inclined to top your friends.
Some of the best examples my friends and I thought of on a long car ride to Disneyland were:
-“I can drive a stick.”
-“I wonder what this does.”
-“Poke it. I dare you.”
-“I can fix it myself.”
-“I think we lost them…”
-“You’ll never take me alive!”
This game is great for some quick and easy laughs, and you’d be surprised how long you can keep the game up for! There are other ways to play, such as increasing or decreasing the number of words you can use (Some favorites of one word sentences were “help” and “whoops”) or playing with cut off sentences, i.e. “tell my wife I love—“.
It’s morbid fun to be sure (my favorite kind), but it’s something that made a road trip with my friends just a little bit more colorful. I hope the game has the same effect on you: keeps you interested, makes you think, and leaves you feeling a little worse about yourself as a human than you did when you started… Happy spring break!
