One of my favorite clubs at Tufts has been the Tufts Economics Society (TES), where I currently serve as the Vice President of Operations. This role has allowed me to connect with students who share a passion for economics, foster a supportive community, and give back by helping others navigate their career exploration—just as I once sought guidance myself. Engaging with students who have diverse interests, from sustainable finance to economic consulting and from economic development research to political economics, has broadened my own understanding of the field and deepened my appreciation for its many applications.
TES provides students with unique opportunities to expand their knowledge of economics through speaker events, networking sessions, and interactive discussions. The society frequently invites economics professors, industry professionals, and Tufts alumni to campus to share insights on topics ranging from financial markets to public policy. I particularly enjoy attending professor talks, as they offer fascinating perspectives on economic theories and their real-world implications. Some recent events we have hosted include an alumni panel, the Diverse Communities in Economics Panel, and a Hot Chocolate Social, all of which have fostered meaningful discussions and connections among members.
In addition to academic enrichment, TES is dedicated to helping students explore career paths in economics, consulting, finance, public policy, and more. The society organizes networking events, resume workshops, and interview preparation sessions to equip members with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive job market. As someone who has benefited from these resources, I take great pride in giving back to students who are now in the same position I once was, offering guidance and support as they navigate their career journeys.
One of the society’s greatest strengths is its tight-knit community. Through study groups, mentorship programs, and social gatherings, TES creates an environment where students can exchange ideas, collaborate on research, and build lasting friendships. The society also works closely with Tufts faculty to keep members informed about research opportunities and special projects within the department.
Joining TES is a fantastic way to enhance your academic journey, build valuable professional connections, and engage with economics in an exciting and practical way. Whether you aspire to work on Wall Street, influence public policy, or pursue graduate studies, TES provides the resources and support to help you achieve your goals.
For prospective students considering Tufts, TES exemplifies the university’s commitment to academic excellence and experiential learning. If you’re eager to explore economics in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment, the Tufts Economics Society is the perfect place to start.
